Scientific Narrative as Strategic Infrastructure
A Practical Lens for Medical Affairs Leaders Across the Asset Lifecycle
Abstract
This white paper introduces the concept of Scientific Narrative as Strategic Infrastructure for Medical Affairs organisations in the life sciences sector. It proposes a structured framework for connecting scientific interpretation, evidence generation, and stakeholder decision-making across the asset lifecycle.
Medical Affairs teams frequently generate substantial volumes of evidence through publications, real-world evidence (RWE), and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR). However, without a coherent interpretive framework, these activities can become fragmented, resulting in duplicated effort, inconsistent interpretation, and reduced strategic impact.
Activity-driven vs narrative-driven
Drawing on published guidance from the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS), integrated evidence planning literature, and industry practice, the paper provides a conceptual lens through which Medical Affairs leaders can assess whether their organisations operate in an activity-driven or narrative-driven mode of evidence strategy.
Application
The framework is intended to support discussion among Medical Affairs leaders, evidence strategists, and cross-functional stakeholders involved in the development, launch, and lifecycle management of pharmaceutical assets.
